Thanks Ben, it was great to chat and have the opportunity to share some experiences, apologies for going off on a tangent
Just to cover off my tips for anyone looking to get in to the industry or move from other IT roles:
Don’t be afraid to ask questions, what do you do, how did you get in to it, do you enjoy it, what are your recommendations?
Be respectful of peoples time and try to get introductions, if you’d like to reach out to people on LinkedIn for example, add a little about yourself and why you’d like to join that persons network
Attend lot’s of conferences and association meetings (mostly virtual at present) and please don’t be afraid to mingle and ask questions during breakout sessions
Research the areas you are interested in, we touched on Security Analysts and Security Architects but there are many more roles within IT Security such as Technology Specialists, Threat Researchers, Penetration Testers, Malware Engineers and then various roles in the vendor world such as Pre-Sales Engineers, Sales etc.
Please feel free to ask any questions below, I’m happy to reply and sure many others will be only to happy to share experiences and recommendations too!
